We started Karlsson in 2007 with a belief that furniture should adapt to the room, not the other way around.
At the time, most seating options available to homeowners, designers, and cinema specialists were limited to standard sizes, fixed layouts, and catalogue configurations. Clients were expected to choose the closest available option and make it work within their space. We took a different approach.
From the beginning, Karlsson was built as a made-to-order seating company. Every sofa, recliner, sectional, and home cinema chair is commissioned for a specific room and built after the order is placed. We do not manufacture for stock, and we do not sell off-the-shelf seating. Over the years, the business has grown from bespoke seating projects into a specialist brand serving residential interiors, dedicated home cinemas, luxury apartments, villas, media rooms, and commercial entertainment spaces. While our product range has expanded, our approach has remained unchanged: understand the space first, then build the seating around it.
Built for Real Spaces
No two projects are identical. A dedicated cinema room requires different proportions, sightlines, and comfort considerations than a living room. An apartment presents different constraints than a large villa. Standard furniture is designed around manufacturing efficiency. We design around how the space will actually be used. That means dimensions, seating configurations, recline functions, upholstery finishes, and layout requirements are considered at the start of every project. The result is seating that feels integrated into the room rather than placed inside it.
Our Workshop
Every Karlsson piece passes through a workshop environment where cutting, upholstery, assembly, and finishing are carried out by a small team of specialist craftsmen. We have deliberately remained hands-on. Rather than operating as a high-volume furniture brand, we focus on a smaller number of projects that can be built, inspected, and finished individually.
The same hands work on the same product categories every day. That repetition creates consistency, attention to detail, and a level of product familiarity that cannot be achieved through mass production.
Materials Chosen for Longevity
The materials we select are chosen for how they perform over years of use, not how they look on a showroom floor.
We use premium upholstery leather, including Italian-tanned hides selected for grain consistency, durability, and natural ageing characteristics. Where motion seating is required, we use Italian engineered reclining mechanisms chosen for reliability, smooth operation, and long-term serviceability.
Material selection also considers the realities of everyday living. Seating may be exposed to humidity, dust, air-conditioned environments, direct sunlight, or frequent use by families and guests. Every component must perform under those conditions while retaining its comfort and appearance over time.
What We Do — And What We Don’t
We build custom seating.
We do not import finished furniture and rebrand it. We do not manufacture large volumes for inventory. We do not ask clients to compromise because a particular size or configuration already exists in stock.
Instead, we work from project requirements, room dimensions, and intended use. Whether the brief involves a sectional sofa, a luxury recliner, or a fully customised home cinema installation, the objective remains the same: create seating designed specifically for the environment it will occupy.
